| A Brief Introduction PES deals with several points of truth that must be understood before any comprehensive attempt toward implementation. 10 The most important psychological discovery of the twentieth century is that man has a self-image. “Know Thy Self” - advised the ancients. Personal psychology and the self-image is a new frontier for the 21st century. 20 The self-image is a “premise” a base or foundation upon which the entire personality is built. Your behavior, your particular and specific circumstances are all based upon this premise –the self-image. The self-image is how we view (look at) ourselves. Because of this, your experiences in life tend to verify, and thereby support and strengthen your self-image. As a result, a vicious or beneficent cycle, as the case might be, is setup, sustained and maintained in perpetual motion. 30 All of your actions: thoughts, feelings, behavior even your abilities are always consistent with your self-image. 40 Discovering your real self means the difference between freedom; the compulsions of conformity and stress. 50 The self-image can be changed through education, training and the practice of Personal Engineering Strategies. Numerous case histories have shown that you are never too young or too old to change your self-image and start to live a new life. FYI one very related and useful psychology concept "environmental stimulation;" conditioning. 60 Your personality is a system of ideas – all of these ideas must be or at least seem to be, consistent with each other. 70 At the very center of the personality (your system of ideas) is the ego. The very base upon which all else is built. The self-image is your conception of yourself and others like you. 80 What each of us really wants is more life, love, happiness, success, peace of mind, or whatever your concept is of the “supreme good.” 90 Your so-called subconscious mind is actually an Automatic Goal Striving Mechanism (AGSM) consisting of the brain and nervous system; this is used and is directed by the so-called conscious mind. 100 The latest and most usable psychological concept is that you do not have “two minds”, but rather a mind or consciousness that “operates” a programmable Automatic Goal Striving Mechanism (AGSM). Positive Self Discovery Exercise Hypothetically; you are required to attend a gathering, social function or cocktail party, at the party everyone will be paired into one of six (6) groups of people positioned around a room. Upon entering the party area a hostess explains that you may choose any group, as the group of people that you would most enjoy spending time with or being with the longest time. It is not required that you join in the conversation or even introduce yourself. You may, therefore. Leave aside any reservations or questions of shyness and whether you would have to talk to them. [Simply enjoy this.] The Groups: REALISTIC People who have athletic or mechanical ability, who prefer to work with objects, machines, tools, plants, animals, or to be outdoors. INVESTIGATIVE People who like to observe, learn, investigate, or solve problems. CONVENTIONAL People who like to work with data, have clerical or numerical ability, carrying things out in detail or following through on the instructions of others. ARTISTIC People who have artistic, innovating or intuitional abilities and like to work in unstructured situations using and exploring their imagination or creativity. ENTERPRISING People who like to work with people – influencing, persuading, performing, leading or managing for organizational goals or for economic gain. SOCIAL People who like to work with people – to inform, enlighten, help, train, develop or cure them and are skilled with words. First Which corner of the room would you instinctively be drawn to, as the group of people you would most enjoy being with for the longest time? Once again, leave aside any question of shyness or whether you would have to introduce yourself or talk with them. Write the first letter of the name of this group here in this space and place a check mark beside the description of that group. ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ Second After fifteen minutes, everyone in the corner you have chosen, leaves, that is except you. Of the remaining groups which would you be drawn to next, as the people you would enjoy being with for the longest time? Write the letter for this group in the next space and place a check mark beside the description of that group. Third After fifteen minutes, this group is call away, once again all except you. Of the areas and remaining groups, which one would you next most enjoy being with for the longest time? Write the letter for this group in the next space and place a check mark beside the description of that group. Fourth After fifteen minutes, this group also leaves, once again all except you. Of areas and remaining groups, which one would you most enjoy being with for the longest time? Write the letter for this group in the next space and place a check mark beside the description of that group. Fifth After fifteen minutes, this group also leaves, once again all except you. Of people and remaining groups, which one would you most enjoy being with for the longest time? Write the letter for this group in the fifth space and place check mark beside the description of that group. Sixth Write the letter for the remaining group in the remaining space and a place check mark beside the description of that group. The attending Guide Person (hostess) will write down the letters for the groups, in the order in which each participant selected them… this data will go under your first name on the simple adhesive name tag. Remember, the purpose of this exercise is Self-Discovery; your personal and private hierarchy of interests and the kinds of people you find most interesting. Preface (Excerpted from Pp-01 PES) Why are you interested in a program about Personal Engineering Strategies for Total Success? Most likely it is because in some areas of your life (finances, health, relationships, business, self-esteem, environment etc.,) you would like or see room for improvement. I think this is true for most people. What I am referring to here is; some people desire knowledge of the ultimate truths and wisdoms. That’s what this is about; Personal Engineering Strategies (PES) - keys to unlock your unlimited success potential – is the total success philosophy presenting “time tested” guidelines that work in all areas of your life. Although, PES presents many ancient truths that are philosophical in nature, it is also very pragmatic and revolutionary today. Personal Engineering Strategies (PES) is not just another interesting “how-to-do it series. Before you start on the path to Personal Engineering Strategies (PES), you must first be willing to completely divorce yourself from undesirable thoughts and (habits) patterns of the past. This is not an easy task, but it is an essential one. Too often, the way one becomes unknowingly conditioned to think is the major barrier to cultivating new skills - achieving true success. A harmful tendency [of most people] is to accept certain conditions as inevitable, “the way life is,” this tendency represents; the single greatest roadblock or barrier to success, that; must be completely removed. Secondly, you must rethink and expand your point-of-view, that is, change your point of view. This means developing an eagerness to encounter new ideas, studying them and assimilating those which “best serve” your personal success requirements and goals. The third important factor necessary to obtaining true success is your ability to redefine, set and achieve your personally engineered goals. Nothing is more instrumental in helping men and women achieve success. Defining [redefining, shaping and reshaping], setting and achieving goals is the pathway to abundant living. These important factors can not be stressed enough. The paramount thing to remember about goals is: in setting goals, nearly everything is possible; without goals, almost nothing is possible. Effective goal management separates life’s winners from the losers. Personal Engineering Strategies (PES) gives you the winner’s edge for total success in all areas of people activity. Among other things PES teaches you how to visualize your goals and dreams in order to help them become part of your new desired reality. Winners are people who relate successfully to themselves and others. Losers can not, do not! You were born a winner, and (PES) will show you how to recognize and effectively use the valuable hidden assets you already possess. PES is not a religion; it is not a theological guide; nor is it a psychology textbook. It is not meant as a substitute for psychiatric treatment or a do-it-yourself psychoanalysis home kit, nor is PES a magical mystery elixir. Personal Engineering Strategies (PES) will present proven techniques and timeless wisdoms in such a manner that can enable you to obtain successes you want in all areas of your life [total success]. The knowledge of... (more later) [1] Pragmatic: dealing with or concerned with positive facts or actual occurrences (experience); practical. [2] Conditions and conditioning meaning: patterns of thought, speech and or action as may be conducted in all areas of people activity.
